I've
been a fan of David Ayer's previous work and was looking forward to Fury, so
how sad I was that the film was a bit "meh".There are good aspects no doubt, it's an entertaining film when it's in full flow and tanks are shooting and stuff is exploding, but it's out of its depth when it strays from the battlefield. It is nowhere near as good at dealing with the morals of war as it thinks it is, and despite the good performances the characters feel a little underdeveloped, War Daddy comes across as a distant cousin of Pitt's character in Inglorious Basterds, Fury touches on what war can make of men but should be more confident than it is. The worst thing however is the overall tone of the film which I felt was misjudged, the violence of the film felt like it came from a comic book, and this occasionally made it an uncomfortable watch. Not a complete disaster by any means but I just expected more. (3 Stars)
